Oknha Sok Kong plans to build the world’s tallest Buddha statue on Bokor Mountain

Kampot: Oknha Sok Kong, president of Sokha Hotel, revealed that the company has plans to build a large Buddha statue on the back of Bokor Mountain in the 500-acre rice field area, reaching a height of 108 meters, which will be the tallest Buddha statue in the world.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of Cambodia, recently approved the construction of the Buddha statue by the Oknha, while the design of the statue has already been redesigned in accordance with Khmer sculpture styles.

Oknha Sok Kong said that the purpose of building this large Buddha statue is to be a sacred place of great value for our Cambodian citizens and to pray for the happiness, prosperity, and lasting peace of all our citizens in this region as well as throughout the entire Kingdom of Cambodia.

The tycoon added that on the other hand, this huge Buddha statue also contributes to the Buddhist sector and the development of cultural tourism, and in particular, it is a great attraction for millions of national and international tourists each year to come to this area in large numbers, and is also a huge source of income that will be received from those tourists.

Oknha Sok Kong said that the company has already submitted a proposal to build the Buddha statue to the Ministry of Environment. At the same time, the company is also actively working with the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts regarding the preparation of architectural plans to ensure that the large Buddha statue is built correctly in accordance with our Khmer style.

Oknha Sok Kong also revealed that the project is expected to cost between 30 and 40 million US dollars, with construction to begin as soon as possible after the company receives legal approval from relevant ministries and institutions and after the layout is complete.

In response to the request to build the world’s largest and tallest Buddha statue by Sokha Hotel, an inter-ministerial committee led by Mr. Net Photra, spokesman and secretary of state of the Ministry of Environment, held a meeting regarding the request.

The important meeting, held on May 27, was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, the Ministry of Cults and Religion, the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction, the Ministry of Tourism, Kampot Provincial Authorities, relevant technical working groups, and representatives of Sokha Hotel.

Through discussions at the meeting, the inter-ministerial committee supported the Sokha Hotel Company’s proposal to build the world’s tallest Buddha statue, but the inter-ministerial committee requested that the company make some changes to the Buddha’s design to make it more in line with the Buddha’s design in Cambodia.
